Welcome Back!

Welcome New and Returning Powell Families!

We are so excited to have you back in the building soon! As we prepare for the new school year, we’ve made some changes to our enrollment and annual student forms process.

This year, you will not receive a paper packet. Instead, you will log into PowerSchool and complete your forms electronically. This should make the process quicker and easier—especially for families with multiple children, since you’ll only need to fill out one set of forms. It will also allow you to update demographic information throughout the school year.

To get started, we need to set up all PowerSchool parent access accounts. You will be receiving a letter in the mail with instructions on how to set up and access these forms. This is a one-time setup process.

We know there may be a few hiccups along the way, so we’ll have a computer available in the school office if you need help completing your forms.

While this change will greatly reduce paperwork, some forms (such as medication and certain permission forms) will still need to be completed on paper.

Parents of Kindergarten and Preschool students: Please note that a health form signed by your child’s doctor is still required. These forms are available in the school office.

New enrollments: Families enrolling new students will still need to pick up record release and enrollment forms from the office and provide proof of residency and a birth certificate. Once students are entered into PowerSchool, the remainder of the enrollment forms can be completed online.

It is very important that all forms are completed in a timely manner—especially the Free and Reduced Lunch application. Even if you do not think you qualify, filling this out helps our school access funding for many other programs and resources beyond just lunch, supporting opportunities for all students.

We hope this new process makes things easier for our families and saves you from finding crumpled forms at the bottom of your child’s backpack!

School Lunch and Breakfast

As a reminder, Powell Township School participates in the Community Eligibility Provision Program (CEP) Making all Breakfasts and Lunches FREE for all students.! We will still collect Household Resource Forms annually to help us to continue to offer meals free to all students in the coming years.

Breakfast will begin at 8:20 am till 8:40am in the school cafeteria.

Here are a few ways breakfast benefits kids:

#1. Higher Test Scores: Hunger makes school harder. Students who eat school breakfast achieve higher scores on standardized tests.

#2. Calmer Classrooms: Children who do not regularly get enough nutritious food to eat tend to have significantly higher levels of behavioral, emotional and educational problems.

#3. Fewer Trips To The Nurse: When kids come to school hungry, they visit the school nurse more often due to stomachaches and headaches. Kids who struggle with hunger are also likely to be sick more often, slower to recover from illness, hospitalized more frequently and more susceptible to obesity.

#4. Stronger Attendance  Rates: Students who eat school breakfast attend more school days. Chronic absenteeism, defined as missing three weeks or more of school, decreases by 6 percentage points on average when students have access to Breakfast. Attendance is important, as students who attend class more regularly are 20 percent more likely to graduate from high school.
